My recommendation? Stick with 2e material; everything up until 1999 or so is rock solid. You'll want to check out Faiths & Avatars, Demihuman Deities and Powers & Pantheons for most everything you need to know. 3e material isn't bad, but not everything from the previous edition was carried over. From 4e onwards, Wizards of the Coast really screwed with The Forgotten Realms and the deities themselves were not spared.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like to keep things current, but the gods of Faerûn particularly what they keep messing around with the Eilistraee/Lloth/Vhaerun and various other gods now gone or assimilated seemed poorly done and confused. I'll see if I Can obtain a copy of the earlier material.
