It's really no book-keeping at all... and compared to the book-keeping of working our which bonuses from which items stacked or did not stack with various bonuses from other items, that was the staple of 3.5, it's laughable that anyone would actually complain about it in good faith ^.^

"It" should not exist; "it" should not be something we are discussing at all.

By the way, if you wish to discuss 3e/3.5e, I'll gladly point out how videogame-y that edition got compared to its predecessors; as an example, a Cloak of Elvenkind - previously a powerful magical item that ANY Class could benefit from - became a straightforward plus to Skill that was a boon to certain Classes and was quickly rendered obsolete. However, the math part of the d20 system was far from laborious (this is coming from someone who is arithmetic averse, mind you) and there certainly wasn't an arbitrary limit on magical item ownership/active use.

If you say so. It exists for a deliberate and valid reason (most attunement items are so for one of two quite specific reasons); I can attempt to explain it to you, if you are actually prepared to take it in and entertain the possibility of changing your mind. If you're not, then there's no point.

So, that's a no then? Do you want me to explain the reasons (and are prepared to listen with an open mind), or not?

No need. This isn't 5th Edition. This is a generic Larian RPG with a very THIN layer of D&D whitewash painted over it.

This. If you want to acquaint yourself to 5e rules, and isn't interested in going through the books or playing a tabletop session, Solasta is your best bet.

Problem is, it won't be particularly relevant to BG3, for reasons mentioned above.

You can forget what is the most powerful class in DnD 3 edtion is not same in BG3...
Well so far they have not yet relased any such Domain I want for my Cleric builds but to start of Cleric is kind of DEMIGOD in Neverwinter Nights that is not so in DnD 5.

There are many who say Cleric is kind of SUPERIOR in DnD5th. I do not agree and obviously they have not played Dnd3rdtion Cleric.
There are many who say Cleric is kind of crap class in Dnd5th. I do not agree.
Cleric one such in a party Dnd5 ? Maybe SUPERIOR if you really do the best build and choises of Domain and stats all powerplay into Kingdom Come!
However Cleric is good in party and not as as solo character generally so often! Cleric also have Turn Undead, but there are not so many times it is useful but that can happen.

If I would make one SOLO character try I would not try Cleric as class for this game... However Cleric can become powerful one such in a group together with group it is group dynamic. In addition those who think Cleric is a healbot are wrong though one of the best healers in the game.

In DND 3 Neverwinter Night it is very easy make a demi God Cleric that will solo defeat anything.
In BG5 it will take some real good choices to make a powerful Cleric.

Still as solo build I would not take Cleric for BG3 for sure if you want to test how one character can solo win.
At low levels a Barbarian Superior class example newly released can become pretty powerful but so can a Fighter or Paladin as well become. Paladin is more specialized if the can smite an example Demon then they can give more damage then the Barbarian vs Evil enemies such as Demon... Fighter and Paladin can be boosted by spells and tactics while Barbarian is more like one characters solo rage.
Wizard is great a superior class, but they will more come into power at higher levels. Well and Wizard if they meet something that is greatly resistant to spells is perhaps not best then. Sorceror and Warlock.. about near Wizard level but you are stuck with your spell choises so need to choose well at level up while wizard can be more safe for a newbie that want to try different spells they have always their variety.

Bard? Well not my expertise.
Monk? Well not my expertise though do martial arts in real life. Well at level 7 Monk levels they get Evasion which can be useful vs fireballs or Dragon Breath.
Evasion
At 7th level, your instinctive agility lets you dodge out of the way of certain area effects, such as a blue dragon’s lightning breath or a fireball spell. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.
Rogue? Well if you want to get rich and open way to some great tresure or steal there is the expert.
Ranger? If they can use the environment they can be very useful. Sometimes it is also more safe to fight from distance with bow. Well and they can choose favored enemies so it depends on what they fight.
Druid? Druid one of the greatest things with it can access places other characters can not access and that can be useful in BG3. Well and the Moon shapeshifting is so much more cool at least for me to do and they can cast spells. Druid spells can also give kind of area control slow down enemies or get them stuck etc.

On the other hand this is not Dungeons Dragons... this is BG3. In BG3 enviroment gives more boost attack from high places etc. use tricks here and there and you can play fine with not so great class.

Well and then there is multiclass.

I would agree that the game shouldn't require previous knowledge to play. I didn't have to know anything about Dragon Age to play Dragon Age Origin. I don't think you should have to be a DM to play a D&D game on a computer either. That being said, this is no reason to change the rules of the game so people will be able to understand it, it means the burden of helping people understand it is on the developer. They can provide plenty of information in a help file like many other games do to allow those who really wish to dig into the bones of the game to do so, but it shouldn't be something you have to study for casual game play.

Probably showing my age here, but In-depth explanations of system mechanics have not really been a thing in dnd-based video games. It was possible in many of the old crpg games to build your character wrong if you didn't know what you were doing, and end up with a terribly under powered character. (it was also too easy to do this in 3e and 3.5). You could also look at the log in some of the old crpg games, but the formulas and values weren't really explained for you, you had to figure it out based on the little info given to you. I was much younger and had no ttrpg experience to draw on and I eventually figured it out, and I'm not smart or good with numbers.

The mouse over and window explanations in this game could use some work, certainly, but they are already more player help than some of the older games ever had. The game doesn't do a bad job at explaining itself, mostly.

Lastly, while many things have changed between the editions (oh boy did they change!) I really don't think you should be basing your opinion of 5e dnd off BG3, it's very different, and that has been my experience with almost all crpg games when compared to the systems that they are based on.

Even if that would be a norm ... it would be bad one worthy of change without any doubt in my mind.
