Me and my father agree, this was one of the most successful use of a song in a movie (not just anime).
What can I say? I love Metropolis!

your dad must be one of the coolest guys around.

metropolis (osamu tezuka's version) is actually continuity of astro boy. more like astro boy's universe than a sequel/prequel of sorts. osamu tezuka mentioned that while he got his idea from fritz lang's movie version of metropolis, they're mostly pictures/shots of the movie as well as synopsis. tezuka visualised metropolis on paper before/without watching the film.

u know, tezuka never gave his blessings to make his metropolis version into film until his death. so u can say the movie is actually a contempt & at the same time reverence/homage to osamu tezuka's memory.

Spoiler : in the scene where that song was played, i was moved close to tears (but thanks to my macho-denial-of-feelings, i didn't ). the love of kenichi for tima & hers to him, the unrecognised (albeit misguided) love of a 'son' from rock to duke red which duke red realised too late, that is easily among the most memorable scene in any film. love at its best when it is most tragic.

anybody who can think of songs that make a very big impact on certain scene in any movie? it can be tragic, happy, exhilarating, funny, etc.

Burn - The Cure
From "The Crow" movie. The time of transformation in order to start getting revenge for the death of his beloved one. One of my most favourite.

Aerosmith - Armageddon soundtrack ... amplifies the love in the scene. Easy ain't it?

Most of the action scenes in Matrix: Reloaded. My legs actually went numb from too much adrenaline. (Gotta love Gold Class cinemas!)

The rescue scene from Shrek 2.

The rape/murder scene from One Perfect Day. Just listening to that track still gets to me.

In case you can't tell, I have a thing for high-energy music.

Very true The multiple Agents Smith fight scene and the highway scene in particular!

The Rock soundtrack adds a lot to the action in the movie too. Same with Gladiator.

John Williams' scores, especially in fantastic movies, add a lot to most scenes too, some more than others.

Children of Bodom - Mask of Sanity

A curious mix of awful vocals and outstanding musical performance .
I am used to those vocals (been listening to CoB for a while) so I ignore them.

Have to mention the Lord of the Rings Soundtrack, and Ennio Morricone - great music!

And I'm using them for the soundtrack to my dennis death-knight movie and there's a lot you can do with the music, fits in so many ways and in many scenes!

That aside, I like Muse!
