That's honestly to bad... as I use them as a MULE to hold heavy gear,
You can still can use them as mules. You can still drag items to their portrait and it will go into their inventory, and at pretty much any range. You just have to add them back to your party latter to get the stuff back if you want to sell or send it to camp.
