I would agree that the game shouldn't require previous knowledge to play. I didn't have to know anything about Dragon Age to play Dragon Age Origin. I don't think you should have to be a DM to play a D&D game on a computer either. That being said, this is no reason to change the rules of the game so people will be able to understand it, it means the burden of helping people understand it is on the developer. They can provide plenty of information in a help file like many other games do to allow those who really wish to dig into the bones of the game to do so, but it shouldn't be something you have to study for casual game play.
