What I am talking about is their attire, physique is a complaint I've seen too and I'd agree with that but that's another issue for both of them.

The Female Barbarian looks too different in comparison and not really like a Barbarian, she looks more like a stone-age or tribal '' civilian '' for a lack of a better term.
The Male Barbarian looks wild and free as you'd imagine, but the Female Barbarian is too modest in comparison.
Personally I think a Female Barbarian having her breast out makes sense and would be fine ( women fighting topless was an actual thing, there's even a Viking Saga of a woman doing it against Native Americans ).
And ultimately it's an adult game, but uh.
Okay, people are prudes about that I guess... Sigh?

However, I don't think that means that the design needs to be so drastically different.
The Male Barbarian just has the shoulderpad and the blue cloth around one side of the chest.
The Female Barbarian on the other hand has a full poorly stitched together leather thing on her torso almost like a vest.
The Male Barbarian just looks a lot more like an actual Barbarian archetype while the Female version doesn't match.

There is a similar issue in Diablo 4 to demonstrate but I think it's the same in Baldurs Gate 3...
And as someone who was the most looking forward to Barbarian and exclusively play Female character it was quite disappointing honestly.

The Male character looks like an actual Conan-esque Barbarian, but the Female character kinda ends up looking like a Mercenary...
They just don't read the same to me.
'' Female nipples scary '' I guess, okay just make the design the same as for Male characters and add some cloth or bandage around the breasts or something like Amiri from Pathfinder...

Barbarians are meant to be wild and free, and it just doesn't read that way for the Female ones imo I really hope the devs will consider changing this.
When I look at the Female version In Baldurs Gate she just looks like a splotch of brown too, the other version is just more interesting to look at while on the Female one the stitched together leather just overwhelms the whole thing.
I love the game and really want to make my first character in the full game a Barb but meh... If this is how it's going to be in the final version then it's honestly kinda killing my enthusiasm for it.
It just doesn't feel the same to me it doesn't feel like I am a Barbarian.

For me both don't look like "barbarian" warriors as I visualize them. They look like some dining room guards of a third class oriental province ruler, for my taste. I don't need boobs, but some more visible skin for both male and female would be necessary, mostly at the legs and arms. A loincloth and less armor parts would be a good start, too.

Who let the boobs out? Oh oh oh! xD

Sory ... it was impossible to resist. laugh
+1 anyway ... i think our curent "equality obsessed" society could be sometimes allowed to do something so wild to be from time to time used for something actualy good ... and approach both genders equaly. :P

Those are barbarians?! What a terrible interpretation.

Nothing about either screams of the feral nature you tend to associate with barbarians. I sort of think Aladdin when I see these headdresses.

When I think Barbarian I think of the Picts, the early proto-scots that terrorised the Roman army, a bunch of painted up screaming people that had a tendency to run into battle nude, or with nothing but their underwear and a shawl, to keep warm, you know? And yes, the ladies were also often nude.

That barbarian is entirely too armoured to be a proper barbarian, both of them. And giving me real Prince of Persia vibes, honestly.

So where's the image from, incidentally? Your post didn't make it entirely clear, sorry, though I'm guessing it's Diablo, since you referenced that? At any rate, what I'm seeing here is armour; there's no two ways about it, these characters are wearing armour. Barb does not start with armour and they shouldn't, so while the designs look neat in their own way, they aren't really appropriate for D&D barb starter gear.

That aside...

Indeed, I second that and would like it too, but, I do want strongly to say that I'd like it to be a choice. I'd like to either be able to pick from small short list of starter outfit appearances, that may include variable amounts of exposed skin - everything from full fur and pelt light clothing, to other culturally-reminiscent simple clothing, and yes, up to and including bare-legged and bare-chested, maybe with some battle paint, for both males and females. Breasts are not obscene... but at the same time I don't think having them out should be default, unless it's a default we can personally choose or not.

I've got characters that wouldn't bother with a chest band at all (mostly due to lack of personal need for such), and characters that would absolutely cover and support their chest (again, more due to practicality and support/restraint than showing off); I'd like to be able to choose.

I agree that the current in game Barb starter gear feels bland and uninspired, especially for females.

The Diablo 4 alpha screen you shared isn't very relevant here, I think. ABK has to hide boobs, primarily because they are American company, and they have plenty of very vocal evangelical christians to take into account.

Larian is Belgian, and even though the country has some 57% of roman catholics, almost 30% of population are either atheists or agnostic. This leaves a sliver of hope, in my understanding.

And then there are modders. If the game will have large sale numbers, as I suspect it will, mods will come aplenty.

I agree, I think giving options would be the most correct, whoever wants their barbarian character to look like in armor can do it, but for those of us who want to have a more realistic representation of what a barbarian would look like, be it male or female, may have the option to do so.

When I installed patch 7 and went to try the new barbarian class, I thought that the armor in the female version did not look like a barbarian and the male version did not look like much, I expected something more wild and "violent" in both cases.

I hope that if Larian doesn't change this aspect due to lack of time or other reasons, in the future a mod will come out that can add some armor according to what a barbarian should be.

While I agree on the sentiment.... Larian has to take into account video game rating boards and whatnot. People are also suprisingly uppity when it comes to nudity in media and things like the 'DND IS LURING YOUR KIDS TO THE DEVIL' craze from a few decades ago probably means video game companies are abit reluctant to have things that outright pull the spotlight towards them in their video game.

Heck. Even when Mass Effect came out the media was all over it because you could have hot steamy sex with aliens even though the scenes themselves are very tame in actuality...

Sometimes not poking the beehive is a sensible thing. Specially if you can prevent the crazies from flocking all over you!

This game already has full frontal nudity and fully rendered sex scenes in it. It's already rated R, or would be, if it were released physically in my country.
