I took it as a funny April Fool's joke. Something unrelated to the game. Even better that they got the voice actor to do it.

My opinion is that if you want a deeply evil character with no good side, Astarion isn't the dude for you. He's chaotic and definitely not good aligned but somewhere in D&D rules they took out the standard alignment chart anyways. They may give him a redemption style arc or he could go ala Bishop from Neverwinter Nights 2 (I am still not over that one!). We will find out.

As for not being the target audience, that's ok. You can still have a product or go to a store that's not marketed for you. Also your choice to not play the game when it comes out. I'm excited but I completely understand it isn't everyone's style.
