Hi all. First I want to say that I have been enjoying this game. I was a big fan of baldur's gate 1 2 icewind dale PST, etc, etc. Am really liking this game, it is an improvement in many ways. I really like the 3 dimensionality. the jumping the falling, that seems like an essential component in a crpg tactical game that the predecessors were missing.
I'd like to address a number of issues that come to mind.
1. i'm running this on a slightly-less than minimum specs graphics. in the wilderness zones, with so many trees, textures, rocks, i'm getting 5-10 FPS. its hardly playable. in the dungeon zones, on the space ship, its far easier to play, the fps is around 20, its fine.
so i would like recommend an ULTRA-LOW graphic settings, where you cut out the bulk of the graphic embellishment, the trees, the miscellaneous stuff that clutters up the screen, at least so i can play without lag. i'd rather have a worse visual experience with zero lag, than an amazing visual experience with a boat-load of lag- hardly playable. Thanks.
2. let me explain this situation, so you can fully understand why i have a problem with this.
i made my way over to the druid camp, i pressed spacebar to cut through all the cutscenes. the combat started goblins versus zhevlor and the good guys. i used a jump spell to jump up to zhevlor. i pushed him off the cliff into the goblins with the thunder spell. then i shot him with a bow and magic missiles he died in the pit where the main combat was taking place.
i clicked on the gate wheel, the gate opened up. i shot more of the 'good guys' until only the goblins remained. they were still aggressive towards me, there was a few of them and a bugbear, they entered the druid grove encampment through the gate i just opened for them, they were out for my blood. so i dashed into the center of the camp, hoping the npcs around me would fight them, but none of them fought the invading goblins, they all just cowered there and watched. was really disappointing. none of the goblins were attacking the thieflings, arron the merchant, the peasants, they all ignored all of them, and were only going after my character. which makes absolutely no sense. eventually i cast a faerie fire ring on the goblins, but one of the 'friendly' npcs was in the ring with them. then the whole town turned red on me, they teamed up with the goblins to kill my character.
that whole encounter went down wrong..
3. i understand this is in an Early Access phase, but 4 levels is not enough to really enjoy this well. I would like to see the level cap go up to 6 or 7 ASAP.
4. I would like to suggest there be an EXIT feature to conversations. often i find the choices unsuitable to my character's roleplay. often i feel railroaded into making some kind of decision, to be their friend and kiss up to them, or to turn on them like some vile criminal. I would suggest a 3rd option, remain silent, end conversation as soon as possible. even if that leads to a fight. its my right to not speak, its my right to not engage in the dialogue if i don't want to. you shouldn't compel me to make roleplay decisions that i'm not comfortable with.
5. the character models, the faces, are lacking in terms of a 'fantasy' feeling. when i choose an elf, i don't feel like i'm looking at an elf, a stereo typical elf, i feel like i'm looking at a white-caucasion model with long ears. its very disturbing. its not game-breaking, but aesthetics and eye-candy matter. the faces could all use an artistic overhaul. i'd like to see more classic stereo typical dungeons and dragons racial appearances, rather than just having a white-guy/girl face, a black-guy/girl face, and an asian-guy/girl face, with long ears, horns or whatever.
6. i'd like to be able to export my character, and then start a new game and reimport that character into the game. at level 4 with all the gear. i don't want to have to start out from scratch every time i want to run through it.
7. i'd like some kind of way to respec my character. i'm just learning this game, what works and what doesn't, how the rules work, how to hit and do damage. without a respec system its going to be hard to really achieve a perfect and satisfying build.
