The Lorelei is actually a rock / platform high above Germany's (I guess) best-known river, the Rhein (is it Rhine in English ?).

The Lorelei was - according to myth - a lady who was sitting there, over the Rhein and combing her long, blonde hair - thus making the people going by ship on the river to be confused by her - so that they crashed into the stones / rocks that wre then in the river (at this site) (they are rmoved now, but were there). The German "ei" is normally spoken like the English letter "i". "Ei" also means "egg" in Grman, leading to interesting results - like "I the Ei". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
