I don't know if this fits under the help or the bug section. I put Ethel's mask on my ranger to test if it would let me go through the wooden door. Then she immediately turned against the rest of my party and attacked them all. I should have saved before I put on the mask, but I didn't. My old save is 1,5 hours before this happened. So my newest save is in the beginning of fighting my ranger with the other three party members. I have tried killing her, looting the mask, throwing it on the floor and reviving her. But when she came back we were all still in a fight.

The second time I tried this we were in a fight but I could now control my ranger. Then I tried to stop the fight by leaving the cellar. But every time my ranger sees the other party members they get into a fight. Again, this is all after having taken the mask off her while she was dead.

I have heard a Protection From Evil & Good spell might work (I don't know if I had to use before I put the mask on though) and I think I would have access to that scroll in my camp. But the game won't let me go to camp because a character is in danger - even when I keep my ranger apart from the others, so they're not in fight mode, and I can control them all.

Is this all supposed to work like this? What can I do? It definitely is super annoying, so if it all is supposed to work like it seems to be doing for me, I would strongly consider changing that. Why doesn't removing the mask before reviving work? There should even be a way of doing it just by knocking the mask wearer out and removing it. I wouldn't mind wasting my first revive on her to fix this - if that worked - but the situation as it appears to be is just super frustrating. I'm pretty sure the game even hinted at removing the mask would fix the condition when it first happened.

I don't know if this will work, but when your Ranger is in combat with your followers have your ranger run in the opposite direction from them. Have both groups use dash to speed this up. Once they get far enough away they should drop out of combat. At that point try a long rest and see if they are still hostile at the campsite.

Hmm... If we weren't capped at Level 4, I might suggest a Remove Curse spell. But I'd think that killing the character, removing the cursed item, and reviving them should still work. I'm not sure I can think of a mechanic that justifies a permanent effect in this way.

Even requiring the death of the character seems a little extreme: the original wearers of the masks got periodic saving throws against their effects.

I mean, on a practical level, I'd say that this is why we "Save early, save often" - and that goes double for a game that's still under development - but I do think that you've identified something that probably ought to be changed.
