I don't have any problems. I gave party limit begone and you only have to separate the party once on the boat ride to Grymforge, because there only four party members can go. But the rest was totally fine.
Okay, so there appears to be multiple mods available for increasing party size: party adjuster, adjustable party size, and party limit begone. And different people are saying the mod they use works fine. Does anyone have knowledge of all these mods such that they can offer some further clarity and guidance on which one is best to go with? Much appreciated.

I talked about it on steam a few weeks ago.

I recommend Party Limit Begone bcs ppl tend to forget that the party limit is not just about companions, but also depends on whether you want to play with a full custom party right from the very beginning which is on the Nautiloid (Icewind Dale style) or wait until the hirelings are available.

The sixth custom party member is trapped on the nautiloid in the “in-between world”. After leaving the nautiloid, the fifth and sixth party members are trapped in the “in-between world”. Workaround: You must then teleport to the camp so that everyone is on the same map. You may have to put them all in Wither's wardrobe beforehand and then regroup them before teleporting out of the camp and then the whole party is together on the same map instance.

Like Lotus, I would recommend Party Limit Begone. It works great for me. And you only have to keep in mind, that you have to split the party for the Grymforge boat ride, since that is hardcoded for four people.
The modder has a very detailed description on their Nexus page too.

So ... what ? MMORPGs are fantasy games, too.

Also MMORPGs are important because they can spent years and sometimes even decades to refine and finetune their systems.

Which means you can get really high quality in this regard ... if the developers care, anyway.

I now use a party size adjustment mod, and it works. Pretty well.

But I wouldn’t want that on my first or second playthrough. There’s a lot of story that depends on the characters in your party. If you increase the party size, these plotlines get more dominant, overshadowing other parts.
