I think custom starting set is great. It lets plan out your build from the beginning. For example, every 1 level warrior starts with a long sword, but what if i chose two weapon fighting style, why do i need a longsword then, let me have two short swords. Or, if hexblade gets added(fingers crossed), he gets medium armor proficiency, but every warlock now starts with light armor
