Covenient chest with any and every possible equipment sound horribly unimersive.
It does but I was thinking of a compromise for the people who want to pick their starting gear. The mind flayers gathered everyone's equipment in a storage chest before throwing us in pods. The chest would only contain one of each of the basic weapons (shortbow, light crossbow, dagger, shortsword, longsword, two handed something) and one light and one medium armour, not some super loot chest. Throw a couple of dead bodies in the room to account for the extra items.
