If nothing else, your chosen background should have some effect on your starting gear - a Criminal background should warrant your character having mostly black/gray attire, Noble should have some regal looking, satin laced clothes/armor, etc.
Would be nice, isn't a requisite. Gonna mod the game to hell and back anyways.
