OK. I have participated in the past on the forum
With a different account? Because with this one you surely haven't.
but I can tell you one of the reasons I don't like to is because the uniformity and consensus thinking here. If you have a different opinion, for example, that Astarion is a horrible character or that the character creator could be improved significantly, people jump on you, dimiss you and don't engage with what you post. In short, it is participation as long as you post what everyone else agrees with but sure I can post. Why not.
That's not just an inaccurate description of this forum, it's the exact opposite of the truth.
Astarion may have his supporters but he's nowhere near as popular here as he is in the subreddit. And the shortcomings of the character creator here have been discussed several times. In fact, we were just talking about it minutes ago in the other active thread of this section.
Also, I have been engaging with people on the topic of the thread, which most people on the thread are not doing, instead they just showed up to tell me how terrible I am, which is fair enough.
Yeah, guess what? You don't get the luxury to DEMAND people to stop commenting on your past behavior (which went on for months) at the drop of a hat just because you made a couple of replies NOW after being called out.
And for context you should probably keep in mind that "Self-promotion being overlooked as long as someone engages with other users" is *already* the most forgiving approach about this type of behavior.
If you were in big popular forums like Resetera, Neogaf or Something Awful, as well as several thematic subreddits, it would equate to an immediate ban no matter what. Even at the first offense. I've seen even DEVELOPERS banned for self-promoting the game they were working on.
