If the theory is true that he wants his freedom then probably not but I don't buy into that theory.
the dead three all wanted to be gods on the mortal planes didn't they?, is that not the ultimate form of "freedom"?
The History of the Dead Three, from Jergal's point of view, implies the opposite:
Jergal arose from his throne with a weary expression and said, " The Throne is yours. I have grown weary of this empty power. Take it if you wish - I promise to serve and guide you as your seneschal until you grow comfortable with the position." Before the stunned trio could react, the Lord of the Dead continued: "Who among you shall rule?"Maybe Bane was tired of his duty as god like Jergal once. And in case of Jergal he just was minimazing his duty downgrading himself to a seneschal. Actually very clever. Anyone who is familiar with hierarchies, also in the gaming scene such as guild management, knows that the guild leader always bears the brunt and is held responsible for everything, good and bad. The deputy has the better position as a mediator, adviser, puller in the background, aspiring guild leader, etc. If something goes wrong, he can always say that he is only the deputy and is not to blame, but as a deputy he has a lot of power and therefore even more freedom than the leader because he can pull himself out of the atmosphere more easily.
