We already talked about this stuff several times, but to put it succintly:

- I doubt "sliders" will EVER be a thing, because these 3D models don't seem to be built with deformability in mind.
- What we can hope for, more realistically, is a getting a bunch of interchangeable pre-sets , on the other hand. You know, three different standardized heights for each model (plain scaling should do the trick), three different builds/body types, that kind of shit...
- More options for everything (faces, hair, bodies, voices) would help a lot to increase the variety and range, but that's a bit obvious and kinda redundant to state openly.

Personally I find the current system serviceable and adequate, but far from ideal.
I feel like the ultimate test of how good your character creator is should be something like imagining an archetype as your goal (i.e. imitating a popular character from fiction) and being able to consistently reproduce it with the tools offered.
Admittedly, not something that many games achieved. Dragon's Dogma comes to mind as a rare exception.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN
