It happened to me as well and I don't think I had casted Friends.
Temporary solution: switch to another character, talk with an npc if you don't see the command bar at the bottom, leave the conversation. Use this secondary character now 'free' from the bug to kill your stuck character. Fast travel to camp and resurrect them through the talkative skeleton.
