I can't play the bard. It's too much. I used the cantrip, and I think I heard something about cow farts? I'm happy for anyone who likes it, and I appreciate the level of effort Larian put into the spell, but for me, it's just a bit too crass. I don't imagine I could sit through an entire game listening to that.

I don’t want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal-food-trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries.

That's it! I want to meet Tim the Enchanter.
Is he still copy righted?

There's a reason they recorded, what, 84 different mocking lines, so that there'll be a variety. (I mean, you could also just not use Vicious Mockery, but what fun is that?) And when I played a bard in tabletop, trying to come up with different comments when I cast it was part of the fun.
And, to be honest, I'm willing to bet adding/changing/removing more lines to the bardic insult list is going to be a hobby for modders.

I'm willing to give larian a bit of grace for this, because as someone who spent a long time playing Bards, I also spent a lot of that time thinking about phrases for vicious mockery and hideous laughter. I'm not a stand-up comedian or experienced stage improvisor, so it wasn't easy.
It looks like they just went to a shakespearean insult generator (yes, they are a thing), and hit mass generate.
And I'm okay with that, wish I had though of it back when i was playing my Bards.

I also find the toilet humour and crude language off-putting, personally. I was hoping for a higher grade of mockery, rather than 50 different ways of crassly saying "you're gross, like this gross thing".

Unless Larian actually adds an item that specifically buffs the cantrip, you’re probably not going to use it even into mid-game anyway.

I don't like the bard class. But there are a couple of funny stuff to experiment with it later on. Imagine a Half-Orc cleric of war / bard with a drum and double-wielding Schillelagh-enhanced clubs as drumsticks. But to be clear: "Wouldn't it be cool if you could dual-wield me?" "You know, my last owner said that I was sharp and edgy. He was such an ass." "Hands up, kiddies, who wants to die?!" "Kill it! Kill it quick before they're all gone!" "Murder! Death! KILL!!!" "Let's dance!" Nothing can top the one and only, but imagine if he gets added to the game and a (female) LVL 14 Valor Bard is wielding . You can double the "Vicious Mockery" fun by literally talking someone to death.

Im sorry, but what is the complaint here again?
Are we complaining that those insults are not variant enough ... or are we complaining that there are insults in the first place? O_o
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!

Unless Larian actually adds an item that specifically buffs the cantrip, you’re probably not going to use it even into mid-game anyway. Cantrips gain extra damage dice at higher levels. And the disadvantage on the creature's next attack remains useful for creatures that attack (as opposed to creatures that force saves, it's not as useful against them). it's still not the most damaging cantrip, but the rare damage type and debuff make it a useful one to have.

Sooo, my takeaway is that Vicious Mockery should be Casual Discourse? The whole idea is that it's supposed to be offensive, congratulations, you've failed your saving throw.

I don't see the problem. Have you ever ACTUALLY played DnD and seen what players will come up with for vicious mockery insults?

Have you ever ACTUALLY played DnD and seen what players will come up with for vicious mockery insults? So? The appeal of cRPG is to have competent writers and designers behind the campaign. Coming up with insults must be a tough job - though only two acceptable solutions are: 1) pull it off 2) find a way to convey the idea without having to write actual insults [as a sidenote, I don’t have as of now an opinion on the subject, as I didn’t play the patch yet]
