Suggestion: At least for some important characters you should have option to reason with them. I will mention two situations.
1. Don’t have Lae'zel in my party and start fight with Githyanki. As I assumed Lae’zel also fight against me. Don’t what to kill her so I unconscious her with nonlethal attack. So I heal her and she attacked me again. It would be nice to have some dialog option after NPC wake up. Like for example: Calm down. You don’t need to die today. (persuasion)
2. The same thing happened with Volo. After I killed all goblins didn’t what to kill him but he become hostile immediately as I start fight with goblins.
I don’t think that every NPC have death wish. You should have some options in some situations to turn hostile to non-hostile.

Maybe I am going too far with this but for example: Kill all goblins but one. And then tell him something like his: Look. We kill all your friends easily. You don’t have a chance. We will let you leave if you tell as this or this.

So after you unconscious NPC with nonlethal attack then you get options like: Finish him off, rob him and wake him up. After he wakes up maybe interrogation or get reason with him.

Now I am really going too far with imagination but can you imagine like: start fight Kagha and kill her but unconscious like 80% of rest druids then this options become available: Surrender and no one needs to die. Zevlor is in charge from now on! (persuasion or intimidation)
