Few exceptions aside, prepare yourself for quality animation; hand-drawn OVAs are golden.

I have a pile of shame for books I haven't read or finished and one for anime/manga that I knock out every few years whenever I close shop for a month or two...in a funk...

My philosophy is that it is best to stick with OVAs: they're short and typically feature animation/art worth digesting. That said, there are some full-blown series I do enjoy, such as the original Dragon Ball (it's full of endearing characters and moves at a slower pace...basically, it is anime comfort food).
