I don't believe it has to do with the item type but how you got the item, or maybe if it's stolen or something. I've been getting this crash no matter who sells what and what vendor buys. I have sold items to the two vendors in the Druid Grove and the Zhent vendor in the goblin camp, and I've been slowly whittling down what triggers it. My best guess (since it's none of the items listed above that also crashed people's games) is that it's selling items I'd previously sold (to the goblin vendor at the front gate) and then looted back. It happens for me with gemstones I'd previously sold to him, then took back after I killed him, and then try to sell again. After that happens, any save action I try to take crashes the game. Before that, I can save no problem. Complete other quests, etc. Hope this helps people narrow it down.
