There is something very unintuitive about the character creation UI. Many times when I make a new character and enter the game, either their name is "Tav" or I forgot to change background / skills / whatever.

It has to do with having a default character with all choices already made, which you then have to alter. And jumping back and forth between the different tabs. I'm usually jumping to change the most obvious character traits first i.e. race and class. When you're jumping instead of progressing systematically, something tends to get forgotten.

RPG's have had good functional character creation UI's for years that don't have the problems this one does. A rule of thumb is that a) there is no default character and b) you make all your choices from a blank slate in a logical order.

So... Why am I presented with a female High Elf Barbarian named Tav when I enter character creation? Give me a blank slate, please. Then let me make my choices in a logical order Race and Gender > Class > Attributes > Background and Skills (> Starting Equipment) >Appearance, Voice and Name. It also feels messy and wrong, in lack of better terms, to have to alter a default PC or someone else's character.

Since the in-game UI is getting revisions, how about looking at character creation, too?

It really is clunky.

Agreed, I don't even want to count how often I had to redo a character I just made because I forgot to edit background and name.

Too much switching between tabs

As always, supporting fixes to the messy and counter-intuitive character creation UI.. I should bump my old thread about that... literally nothing has changed since I first posted t all that time ago, so it's all still relevant.

Also, cycling through a list (of hair-styles, make-up, deities, etc) is not a great way to let the user make a choice. Drop-down menus or selection grids (like for eye colours) are better.

When I started the game for the first time I did not even realize I am in character creation, pressed continue and started with Tav.

Unless you select an origin char, the game should at least ask you to enter a name for your char before you can start.

All other DnD games (or similar, such as Pathfinder) let you select stuff in a fixed order: Race, class, stats, skills, look, name or something similar.
I don´t even know how DOS2 was, but there class only defined your starting equipment. You could select whatever skills and abilities you want.

I agree. The order of the tabs don't even make sense.

When you choose your proficiencies and then go back and you have to choose other things later. If you pick Draconic Sorcerer, you've already done appearance but now the draconic scales are there but you've passed that tab. It's so easy to miss stuff.

When you get the extra cantrips/racial spells, I think it should be more clear.
