As of Patch 8, Alfira has incredible rewards for the player depending on how you choose to help her with her song.

  • If you choose to inspire her by talking about her teacher, she performs the beautiful "Weeping Dawn" song in a lovely cinematic.
  • If you choose to inspire her by playing her teacher's lute and successfully pass the two Performance checks, she gives you Lihala's Lute and you also gain proficiency in Musical Instruments, but unfortunately she does not perform the song

So both decisions have very unique and lovely rewards, one purely artistic while the other material, but the player misses out on such a sweet moment with Option 2.

My suggestion is;

  • Please make "The Weeping Dawn" cinematic play for both choices as Performance checks are a much harder path towards her inspiration
  • Passing both Performance checks could show our main character continue being her instrumental backup in the background during the cinematic

This way both choices will have "The Weeping Dawn", but the harder choice will have a bit of extra if the player wishes to go for it. Right now it feels punishing to do the harder path, but not see her perform.

I actually like it the way it is now as I see both rewards as equal worth since, and you may correct me if I'm wrong, none of them affect the rest of the gameplay. One reward is a nice cinematic and the other a fun but gimmicky toy to play with, which means both add value to a second playthrough where you get the reward you didn't get the first time.

This sounds like a win-win situation to me. ^.^

The song is poorly written, has terrible flow, and is generally unpleasant to listen to, in my opinion - no recrimination about the singer; the song itself is the problem - it was painful and uncomfortable to sit through the first time and I've avoided it ever since...

Its funny, first time I listend to this cutscene I found it weird how close she is to her teacher, I tried to imagine writing a song for my teacher "because i miss them so much" who taught me to play the recorder in primary school, or my kids now doing the same.

And I had to remind myself its not the same, they have a master student bond of old, like a paladin and his squire

And the loss and closeness is a completely diffrent bond

But unfortunately bad writing portrays the wrong feeling, and wrong point, wich is a reoccurring problem threw out larians baldur's gate.

They almost have an amazing game, from the outside it looks shining and brilliant, but look too hard, and it crumbles

The thing that makes me the most sad, is larian will never fix these kind of things, that drag you out of emersion, and deliver completely the wrong message

Well, you are not alone.

I even made few attempts to re-listen to it over the updates, tough, at least up to a point, and my take was usually "Yep, still as dreadful as the first time".

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

LOL, the feedback here is exactly like those two squirrels that are covering their ears in front of her laugh

P.S. - If you haven't, definitely try Animal Speak on them ^^

I don’t know how music education works in Feurun, but for me, trained classical musician, in checks out. You spend years having 1 on 1 lessons with the teacher, learning not only technical aspect of playing but also: history, interpretation. He or she will help you through what is a rather intimidating and stressful act of performing, and what you learn will shape your future career. I am more or less in touch in my teachers and will care deeply when they will pass away. And if you learn composition, your teacher will influence your own musical voice.
