This is going to take a bit to explain, so the tl'dr is: in turn-based mode, environmental actions (flames, evaporation, NPC movements, etc.) are now happening per-turn rather than per-round.

1) This is a change - happened sometime between Patch 6, where it was normal, and Patch 8 (I didn't play Patch 7).
2) This is wrong by the rules (not that Larian feels bound by 5e rules), so see point #3 for the real problem.
3) This is killing characters who are in scripted environmental effects and fast-forwarding some sequences of events.
4) It doesn't happen in combat, only for scripted events. So it's most notable in Waukeen's Rest, which has a huge number of scripted events.

First:
Turn - one character's actions.
Round - one full set of each character's actions.

Environmental effects and NPC actions should be per-round, not per-turn. So, each character does something, then the scripted events run once, repeat.

For Waukeen's Rest, I usually go into turn-by-turn mode to better control the situation. For previous patches, it would take the Flaming Fist people about four rounds to get to the blocked door where the councilor is - first, they would move towards the stairs, but still be on the first floor; then they would be on or just up the stairs; then they would be down the hallway; then they would be in front of the blocked door. For the current patch, they are moving every time each character has a turn, meaning they reach the blocked door in one round. For that sequence of actions, not a big deal, BUT:

Water now evaporates and the fires spread and do damage 4 times as fast: Since previously 4 character turns was one round and therefore one environmental effect, but now each character turn is one environmental effect, 4 character turns is now 4 environmental effects instead of 1. Standing on a 'safe' patch of ground? Nope - you will take 3d4 fire before you can move again in turn-based mode (1 turn for the fire to spread to your area, 3 additional turns of damage). Rescue Benren? Nope - the fire which used to take 2 rounds to get to him and then 2-3 rounds to kill him now kills him in 1 round. Think you can use water to compensate? Nope - 3 rounds of wet is now less than 1 round of wet, so you can put out a fire and then be back on fire in one round.

[grump] Why? Just why? It was right and now it is broken and punishing use of turn-based mode. [end grump]

Wow. Surely that can’t be intentional.
