It was just a matter of time before they had to upgrade.
Well it is so outdated graphics so would not want to pay money for it. Last time I checked it years ago the old Dungeons Dragons Online was very limited in free access. You must pay money in Dungeons Dragons Online old game to get access to everything.

When I played Neverwinter MMO (which is Action Combat DungeonsDragons 4th edition) 1,5 years time I never ever paid not even one euro and had access to everything no limits. It was quite a lot of grind for me (took me like roughly 6 months to get fastest mount as free player) even though it is absolutely pay to win and you can literally simply buy fastest mount in Neverwinter MMO with real cash.

Well and as for those who pay with money as buy to win aspect in MMO:s? I respect that. I am absolutely not poor some would even say fairly wealthy, but not millionaire. I respect you regardless if you play games as free as possible or want to pay for them (including buy to win) with real money.

That being said in some games like Diablo Immortal the pay to win has gone to far as I see it. Well and what nasty trick they said to buyer you can not buy better armor. True but then they made you can buy gems that you equip that gives power.

I hope they do not do same thing with Diablo 4 as with Diablo Immortal make it pay to win to Kingdom Come.

Well and as pay to win goes to far worst example is perhaps upcoming everlasting project Starcitizen MMO. I have never payed for it not interested in it but I know many gamers have payed for a game that perhaps never will be released.
