I guess Minsc was a ranger in BG1 because there was no barbarian class.
Then he was kept a ranger in later games for consistency.
Yes, he definitely is a berserker.

BG2 had a barbarien and a berserker subclass of fighter and now we have a berserker barbarian.
I think it would have been better to make him a plain fighter in BG1 and give him the berserker subclass in BG2.
Then Korgan could have been a barbarian.

For story reasons it makes no sense to change classes for most companions.
Yes, classes are importent in DnD while former Larian games did not care much about classes (everyone could learn everything).

Multi classing is fine, so it would be similar to WotR.

Edit: I wonder if we can alter stats and skills for origin chars if we use them as main char.

I mean ... it seems little odd, that much is true ...

Or that pact with a devil cant make you better Rogue?
Those dudes by tollhouse all have pact with Zariel ... and what they are? Fighter, Wizard, Ranger and Rogue ... even tho they all claim they are Paladins.

The only way I'd be okay with it is if **ALL** story beats and voice lines reflect their new class as much as the current story and voice lines reflect their current class.
