You don't like "freeze the entire screen" to react but instead prefer an entire new turn to... react? wtf
Also the whole point of reactions is to resolve some action on the enemy's turn (and then enemy continues their turn), not do something on your other turn. Imagine hit->shield->counterspell->counterspell. 3 times to freeze the screen and choose reaciton vs weird turnception you're proposing. Don't like it one bit.
