Yeah, the loot seems to be randomized.
Which I'm not a fan of, in general, but it wouldn't be as much of a issue if the the "loot table" wasn't so bad.

As I was saying few days ago in the Feedback subforum I would gladly do with fewer of these chests (like, FOUR rather than 20+), but ideally more interesting ones.

Digging out a massive coffer only to find 15 gold coins and pig head doesn't really make much sense. Who did even bother burying this shit?

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

Wonders if those nice +2 weapons are like .000001 percent chance.

I'm not sure if you are just joking or not, since I don't think you can find magic weapons in these chests?

Also, as far as I know there's only ONE +2 weapon currently in game, and that would be the mace dropped by the Gnoll pack leader.

Some are RNG, some aren't.

For instance, the one behind the house with the ogres in the Blighted Village appears to be the same every time. Along with the one along the trail--by the river's edge--along the trail from the village to the swamp. If those are RNG, then they're *very* likely to give the same items.

Also, the one under the bridge by the toll keeper... I think. I haven't had a chance to test that one enough.

There's another one outside the goblins camp.
You have to climb the ladder on the left inside the camp after the bridge. Where there are a few paintings.

An interesting note though, the BG3 wiki has a list of all the weapons in the game, and in that list, there are some weapons that we haven't seen in the game yet.

Not only +2 versions of some weapons, but also some specifically named things like the Spiderstep Staff and Creation's Echo.

In response to +2 weapon link.

All of those pretty pink weapons have +2, but no location. It could be they were just data mined...or...perhaps they are yet to be discovered.

Since no one reports them in chests...then they are most likely further into the game.

Now I did peek at the +2 Halberd (by making it the default starting equipment)...looks nice (more like a glaive). It shows up on the character creation screen.
I resisted temptation and gave myself the plain +0 Halberd.

I had trouble with my mods (one outdated one was making it so I could not short rest)....so I restarted my Barbarian (last run for patch8)...maybe...back to work in 2 weeks.

Completely off track: I was going to let Astarion tag along (since I just finished practicing with an Archer build)...He gave me chronic CTDs when I let him join (like 6 in a row).

So I instead bonked him on the head...and ran to tell the vampire hunter he was a asleep on the beach (just to see what would happen)...nothing, that's what. Dumb Vampire hunter wants to join Auntie Ethel's menagerie.

Why do the buried chests have to be ridiculously oversized? Why are we back to playing in a cartoon again?

Can they simply not commit to a chosen style for a game but keep reverting back to DOS cartoon style without realizing it?

And who buries a chest underground to keep hidden some 50gp worth of stuff? Stashes of commoners should be in cloth sacks or bags.

Let me guess, do you need a shovel to dig these out?
Next Larian will make Gnomes be able to <naturally> dig out these chests. Or some other race.
Same goes for pick locking.
Next we will have a new all-round free action skill called <mental KI> which will let us move objects from afar.
To make things easier for everyone we will also have Faerun bedrolls available for instant rests.
Larian will also adobt a unique magical/physical defense system on top of our HP!

And in the end Larian will announce DOS3 is being made along side <BG3>, and nearly finished!

I mean.. the digging mechanic is nothing but FLUFF anyway.

You just carry a Shovel with you is all it actually means. And then you see a funny animation of an oversized chest popping up from the ground, one that would be far too heavy for you to lift. This is the reason why we need to carry a Shovel? You can even instantly teleport back and forth between camp to get one, should the Shovel be at least inconvenient to carry, which it's not.

Could we just not have to carry that Shovel with us everywhere and just roll a Perception check to find something that would be more reasonably stashed? How plausible is it that hidden treasures are everywhere in Faerûn, anyway? We are back to what's "fun" (subjectively) in a video game, just not believable in a mature RPG setting.

Shovels and Food are complete fluff that add nothing real to the game except annoyance.

Nothing to do with treasure chests, but completely inspired by finding them.

How amusing would it be if Tav delivers an animation like this, if you choose to "knock out" an opponent.

Good Night!
