The upvote/downvote function sours Reddit as a forum in my eyes. Subreddits tend to attract "fandoms" and those groups tend to hold certain things sacred (such as the perfection of the property in question), so acting against the hivemind doesn't provoke well-reasoned arguments, but instead complete and utter silencing. It's a great place for BG3 memes though.
I noticed other reddits don't necessarily have people downvoting each other into oblivion even if they disagree. As far as games are concerned, it's futile trying to have a critical or constructive discussion in a fan house where criticism isn't tolerated and gets silenced. A "discussion" forum like that contributes to making humanity more stupid. It's no longer required to understand or explain why you like or dislike something, just join the mob to invalidate someone else's opinion.
