I thought there were some werewolf tags... though I might be wrong, it's been a while since I read that. Even if it's true, going by how Larian handled Astarion's vampirism... who knows what they homebrew for a werewolf. And if Helia is a werewolf, the companion list is... interestingly... balanced.
(M - melee oriented classes or melee oriented character design)
(R - ranged classes or ranged oriented character design)
Lae'zel - fighter. (M)
Shadowheart - cleric. (M)
Astarion - rogue. (M)
Karliah - barbarian (based on the latest info) or paladin (based on the old tags) (M)
Gale - wizard. (R)
Helia - werewolf bard. (R/M) (possibly melee) (M)
Minsc - ranger (R) (but possibly with berserker (M) stat spread & abilities - if they go with his BG1/2 & comics profile, so again possibly melee)
Wyll - warlock (R) (but melee character design (M) (with his guard history & rapier-attack AI) - possibly if we get more pacts, eg: pact of the blade )
Of course, we can specialize them so they're not so melee-heavy and if we can multiclass them later, it's even better but... meh.
