I wish to see an adventure set in The Dalelands.

I think BG2 showed us that Baldur's Gate as an IP doesn't necessarily need to be set in Baldur's Gate? Not to be negative about the notion of a new IP, but Baldur's Gate is just a very recognizable name.

I didn't like them on a mechanical level.
Not a fan of the way they looked ( I found the art in both games butt-ugly), and even less of the way they controlled and played.

EDIT: Also, I remember fiercely disliking the fact that NWN 1 moved away from being a party based game and focused on "Single character plus mercenary".

Yep, I concur.
That said I did get a ton of mileage out of community made persistent worlds. 3T in particular. In fact I even got involved in its design and growth at one point.

I always liked the concept of what could be done with nwn, more than the implementation itself.

Another region - and one that is basically untouched by Forgotten Realms products - is the Great Ruins of Shoonach.

A grand adventure set in Waterdeep/Undermountain/Skullport, seeing as it's the biggest city in the realms.

In an alternate universe, Larian got the Planescape IP from WOTC instead of the Baldur's Gate IP. Wonder how that might've turned out. Bet Lae'zel still would've been an Origin character, lol.

Probably a lot better since Planescape is more about weird stuff than the Forgotten Realms. It would certainly have fit their design philosophy a lot more.

Well... you got a taste of it NWN 2: Mask of the Betrayer (which was a very good expansion).

There's also Algarond: a sizeable region with a mystical forest and a noteworthy Half-Elf population that is ruled by a tempestuous sorceress-queen who holds Thay at bay.

Also, the way Planescape: Torment was structured around the PC's pre-existing story heavily matches the Origin System. It also lends itself to a permutation-based design.

Not sure if I agree with your sentiment at all. I don't think Planescape: Torment is in need of a sequel, but it would be really nice to have a new game use the Planescape setting. I hardly think that just because Planescape: Torment was so good that no other developer should enter the City of Doors ever again. I'd like a completely different take on Sigil as a new Planescape IP, while leaving the door open for someone else to do a Planescape: Torment 2.

This already happened. inXile made Torment: Tides of Numenera.

Not sure if it is any good though - I still haven't played it.

Tides of Numenera does NOT use the Planescape setting.

It uses the… well, Numenera one.


Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

Yeah it was a whole legal thing. They got the rights to the "Torment" part of the property, but not the rights to the Planescape part.

I think using the setting, and maybe one or two companions from the original game, along with tying up some loose plot threads that were more tangential to Planescape Torment would be a very satisfying way to engage the Planescape IP. Avoiding being a direct sequel to Torment while still adequately calling back to what Torment did to make the property good. Bring in Nameless Origin Characters whose different lives you slowly unravel. But leave the continuing story of the Nameless One and the rest of the companions very, very vague, if it has to be in the new property at all.

Also... an aside... There being a Baldur's Gate 4, or an expansion to BG3, is the only way I can accept the level cap in BG3. Why make a standalone game where you only cover a little more than half of the class content? It would be a shot in the foot.
