Hey there,

my game keeps getting a black screen when doing this:

first time long rest in camp
camp loads and Gale directly starts a conversation with one of my chars
dialog works fine, then Gale ends with the words "we should get some sleep"
screen gets black
game menu can be accessed but I can't load any saved game
only solution: quit game

testet with vulkan and dx11, with autosave on and off

please help and/or fix the problem

got a workaround when a friend is invited to play a char, then video starts normal.

now I have the same problem with Raphael. After his speach there should be a another scene where he teleports the group in a virtual castle with lots of food.
but the video does not start, BLACK SCREEN again and sound/musik is playing. I can reload the game, though.

Need to wait for my friend to test if the workaround will work this time, too.

It's really an annoying bug because it locks you out of the game. You literally can't play when you can't go to camp to rest.

The screen going black when you goto the castle with Raphael should be permission to run the video... Set the Larian launcher to ran as admin is the work around for this but Gog players need to do it after each patch comes out

Well, at my first run through patch 8 this was not a problem with the Raphael video, though it was with other videos.
Still, tried running the game with admin rights, but the same error occured.
Thanks anyway for trying to help. (and yes, I'm on Steam, not GOG)

Workaround with friend did also not work.

So at the moment the testing for BG3 is over until the problem has been fixed.

Could you try saving the game during the black screen and loading it again?

I get these black screens often. Quicksave/load has worked for me at least so far.

tried it several times:

with new named save game and
with quicksave

in both cases the system does not save the game resulting in no option to load any not-saved-blackscreen-save-game

tested with Hotfix 28,

Edit: tested with full admin rights for bg3.exe and bg3_dx11.exe. In black-screen mode I can manage game options, but saving the game does not work. Loading an old savegame does work though. Also tested to invite a friend, and this time my friend gets the black screen too with the same bugs as mentioned right now. This is getting ridiculous...

soooo: still the same bug.

Waiting for next Hotfix / Patch... this is really frustrating!

I've had success with these by reducing video quality settings

tried most settings, did not help. today's minifix also did not help

the game and the launcher are two different things... the launcher is what controls permission to run vids in game

however, if save\ load works then your system is prob struggling to play the game i.e, Ram or heat are the most common cause because ime having admin permission will block it each time

for example an easy way to spot heat/ ram issues is when the icons start to disappear... if you see this i'd shut down for a 1/2 hour

the launcher does have admin rights.
heat and ram are not a problem, checked both.

we are now in hotfix #29 and the bug is still in the game

Upgraded my PC to Win 11 with all kumulative updates.
Also updated Nvidia Driver to current version 527.56 (12/08/2022).

Problem still is the same, although this time the launcher had some "news":

"We've detected a data mismatch, wich may be caused by unsupported mods, corrupt files or unknown data. This could cause crashes or issued running the game. Please see our support page for more information."

So I checked the support page and followed the instructions to clear old patch files and start an integrity check for the files with Steam. The check was fine, all game files are ok.
Additional info: never had any mods installed

I hope Patch 9 will fix the problem, so going on hiatus again

Found an option in the launcher settings to reset the launcher, so the message mentioned above is now gone.

Launcher version kept the same.

Launcher Version: 1.0.1751493
BG3 Version: 4.1.1.1829258

Launcher and BG3.exe have admin rights.

When the screen gets black I can still go back to main menu.
Tested on Vulkan and DX11.

So I guess it's just the video that will not start.
So sad.
