Hi,
This is to deep-dive/brainstorm on a feedback made on the discord server.
The more you think about it. The more the encumbrance, food, rest mechanism is clunky and needs something.
A few observations:
A. (Due to the absence of day/night cycle and time in general) the game let you long rest whenever you want (and wherever you want).
B. You can send any item, including food, to your camp stash. Meaning in there you should never ever be encumbered.
C. The game is currently in an sort of outdoor setting but it is safe to assuming later on you could be in a city setting.
A few suggestions:
A. Ideally we should have a day-light cycle defining the long-rest, would be more elegant than the food solution and allow for a natural rhythm (clicking end the day bring the night, but the night gradually come otherwise). Also would provide natural attack timing (infiltrating a goblin camp at night makes more sense)
B. Larian seems pretty commited to this ever accessible camp location (ideally it would more logical to camp on the actual map), but at least forbid to start a long rest if you are not X meters from an enemy (e.g. we shouldn't long-rest in the goblin camp's temple right where we killed gut to be ready for the next fight) it makes no DnD sense to be able to do that.
C. I have made my peace with the encumbrance abuse (after all you could have a dimensional pocket). Still it would make sense to not have the ability to send items to that chest and remove the camp waypoint (after all it is supposed to be a moving location??).
D. I would keep the food, remove their healing benefit, but have them automatically stack into a "food reserve" bag in the inventory to save us from the cluttering. Also automatically remove 40 for a full rest from the reserve I can eat half a lamb shoulder to keep the rest tomorrow....
Any thoughts
