I never knew potions worked that way until Maximuuus pointed it out. (It didn’t respond to that because it left me speechless). I assume, though, that this behaviour is a by-product of systems governing potions and surfaces rather than specifically programmed to work with particular potions.

I think it’s because players default to using class abilities, of which Magic Missile is the only automatic success. Every other class ability gets worse as the opponents get better. I don’t see why most of Larian’s homebrew ignores this principle.

Ike this?

I tried with a lot of various potions, but not sure I tried everything.

It work at least with healing, poison and fire resistance, invisibility, strenght, haste and invisibility potions.
But the surface is quite small so characters have to be close together.
It works exactly the same as throwing healing potions, you've probably seen the ennemy used it.

On top of being totally immersion breaking and OP, it is a very inconsistant mechanic that does not always work as it should.

It happened a few times that despite being on the created surface, the buff doesnt applied to one of my companions...
Players (and I guess AI cause I've already been healed by ennemies healing potion surface) have a very bad control on the mechanic.

Good grief I can't believe I've never noticed this before in all the times I've played the game. I don't throw them myself so never really paid much attention to to what the AI was doing.

Yup! Drinking potions is objectively less effective then throwing them.
