And people who dump Str should get reduced movement speed with armor, or with something in their backpack.

agreed, all of those things should exist.

But except they shouldn't, because the default minimal is an 8, not a 1 like in, for example, fallout games. 8 means you are slightly below average in any given field of expertise, yet you are still just a normal human being, not a drooling retard, not a skinny sick boy, not a feeble rachitic. IMO ofc.

But when rolling...isn't the lowest possible number...3? That's high enough for animal companions to use skills(might have this confused with pathfinder rules) but not high enough for them to be able to speak.

And personally I hate that 5e went with the decision that you can't go lower than 8 when point buy.
