There was such topic in the past, but it lacked poll ... and i think it could be interesting. :P

Also ... my opinion in this matter is quite known i believe.
So, my vote goes for making Tiefling kids killable ... not just bcs those bastards are asking for it, but mainly bcs this is supposed to be roleplaying game, and if character that i roleplay have no problem killing women, childern, elder, or sick ... i should be able to.
I honestly simply hate this moral amor, and want it gone.

So ... what would you preffer?

Personally I hate the presence of kids in these games, same goes for cute and vulnerable animals. Hated them in DOS 2. So I voted remove.

Also there is no way Larian would change this. It's one thing to allow us to stand by and do nothing while Arabella is killed but if you could wholesale slaughter dozens of kids I think eventually the game would end up in the news for all the wrong reasons.

I understand the "Change it..." options because they add more consistency.

I honestly think there's a case to be made for each options and I'm sure there's been some discussion about it at Larian Studios.

But, personally, I would prefer to "Keep things as they are" because :
- I don't want to kill kids.
- I find it interesting to learn that Halsin is capable of doing so.
- It opens an interesting dilemma when fighting with Halsin against them : to let them go (the ones that survive Halsin at least) at the risk of having them calling more goblins or to kill them to contain the fight. No such event with the Tieflings (that I know of at least).

These aren't just kids we're talking about here, folks. They are parasites. Thieves, poisons, threats. They eat the food, drink the water, and then steal the most holy idol in thanks.

In matter of Tieflings kids imortality its change of single value from 1 to 0 (or other way around, depending on how they implemented it laugh )

But Larian is not the only one who can change things, i would gladly download any mod that will make all npcs killable. smile Since i simply dislike plot (or moral) armor and concider it butchery of immersion. wink

I didn’t mean they wouldn’t change because it would be difficult but rather because it would be gratuitous.

No doubt there will be mods which gives Larian another reason to leave as is.

I voted to remove them all.
Personally I think everyone should be able to be killed. Larian can not do that or they would not be allowed to sell their game in certain countries. I will not be surprised if some country/organization tries to raise a fuss about killing the goblin kids the game already allows.

to be clear, its not 'change it' but 'change it back' however i do think Larian missed a chance here to add script for giving you the option to let them leave out a back door or some such instead of just knee jerk cutting content

A) They're fictional (which is, you know, the most important consideration).
B) They're monsters.

I'm abstaining on this one.

I definitely don't want the kids to be removed and think both the tiefling and goblin kids are interesting characters that add flavour. And I particularly don't want them to be removed because some players might want to kill them, that seems really unfair.

As to whether all child killing in the game should be possible or not, I just don't know. I guess if the game is going to let you kill any NPC then there's an argument to say why stop at kids, but on the other hand I want a story-rich RPG and always want Larian to prioritise that over catering for people who want to be able to kill anyone. I'm actually fine if there are inconsistencies or game breaking issues if someone goes full murder-hobo, or even just specifically murder-hobo. And I certainly wouldn't want talk about the game to centre on it enabling child-killing.

I'd be tempted to go case-by-case and consider whether there's a dramatic justification in each case beyond simply some players wanting to be able to kill whoever they fancy. Awful as it is, I do think that it should be possible to kill the goblin children near Halsin's cell as there is a rationale for doing so, but I also don't think Halsin should kill them so it's up to the player either to kill them or let them run for help. I also found it upsetting but okay in the game context that you can cause the deaths of the tiefling kids by siding with the goblins and see the consequences. I am glad that the goblin kids round the corpse seemed to mysteriously vanish when the whole camp turned hostile after killing the leaders, and think it's reasonable that they've gone into hiding. I actually don't know what happens if you try to randomly kill either a tiefling child or goblin child outside of these scenarios and don't particularly want to try it to find out, hence not voting.

Except I "like" that Halsin can kill the kids since it adds to his character even if it's upsetting.

I can appreciate where you're coming from, and it certainly gives credence to his statement that he'll not be able to stop himself from killing goblins if you take him with you. Which surely is an appalling lack of control for a senior druid, but perhaps we'll get some more info about the beserker bear later!

But it's a step too far for me, and though it involves metagaming I now find it really hard to release him knowing what might happen. Perhaps if there were a way to save the kids, for example to have an option to say "I'm freeing this bear, so you'd better start running now" in the dialogue that triggers when you approach, which would keep them out of the battle entirely and let them run in real time, or at least give them initiative to go first which would put them outside Halsin's reach but still give you the opportunity to stop them after they made it clear they were calling for the guards.

Though I confess I haven't really tried to see if there is a way to stop him killing them as I never saw it happen until this patch, so maybe there already are options I just haven't explored.

these are the same kids playing with fire to burn a animal in a cage so why doesn't Larian remove all the animals to stop us getting upset over that... and that harpie doesn't have a shirt covering her tits so we better take them out as well because... 'thing of the kids" right?

What is "moral amor"?

Monster children have been in D&D a long time. You'll find mention of goblin and hobgoblin children in the AD&D Monster Manual and B1 Keep on the Borderlands, for example. In all those D&D cases, the monster children are non-combative, yield no treasure, and convey no experience points. Sort of like squirrels. Regardless of whatever alignment I play, I do not derive any game satisfaction from racking up squirrels.
