In BG the only cursed items that were enjoyable for me were the Helm of Opposite Alignment and the Girdle of Masculinity/Felinity. The Claw of Kazgoroth was cool, but only if you liked having the blur image visual effect on constantly hehe. The visual wow of stuff like stoneskin, barkskin, mirror image etc. wears off pretty quickly, but the claw was ok, cause blur was also the default ghost/spirit look too, so it had that going for it. The cursed sword of berserking had a bit of novelty as well, I guess, but pretty niche there.
I wouldn't mind if they did the Vecna artifacts. The Hand or the Eye or the Book of Evil, but only if they really made it a big part of the story, just cause they're so famous in the lore. I think an artifact like a dragons orb or baba yaga's hut would be fun to see done up as a 'cursed' version, but those aren't really arms and armor type items.
Talking swords are always fun, if going more Mormegil style, but I think a masochistic shield might be funnier than a sadistic sword for a BG3 game. I like the idea of cursed equipment and such, but only if the curses have some story elements built out around them.
To me the archetypal curse is some form of ongoing polymorph, like Lucius in the Golden Ass, so I wouldn't mind seeing a D&D riff on that. As long as there's a rose petal at the end I guess lol. I think they could do something fun with the concept. I find that a curse is more interesting if there's a witch or a warlock or whatever behind it, or as some kind of active ongoing quest unto itself, as opposed to just chancing on random backbiting weapons. Cursed items that only have a malus with no boon, aren't very interesting at all, so unless they have some plot to excuse them I'd stick to stuff that actual has some utility or at least some solid story vibes.
