Good afternoon,
as per the title, I would like to notify this never-before-experienced bug:
while approaching, or when trying to interact with, the GNARLED DOOR (by Ethel's Gnarled House's "basement"), the game becomes unresponsive.

The description of the behaviour follows:
the screen turns black, *however* the gauntlet-shaped cursor can be seen, and it moves around the screen
background sounds and music continue
by pressing "Esc" the menu can be brought up
menus can be navigated

Even if I split the party, leaving someone in the upper level, I can't switch characters when the bug happens. This was my solution when a similar bug happened during a previous encounter (the 2 humans accompanying the "Chosen Soul Dwarf" - I'm sorry, I can't remember the names).
Even if I wait an obscenely long time, the situation doesn't change.
Even if I try to turn from Fullscreen to Windowed, before or during the bug, the situation doesn't change.
Even if I try and close the game (not killing the application, rather properly selecting "Quit"), and switch from Vulkan to OpenGl, reload the last save, and try the interaction again, the bug happens anyway.
Even if I try changing resolution or tinkering with any other Video option, before or during the bug, the situation doesn't change.
Even if I try to go to desktop (by pressing the Window key) during the bug, the situation doesn't change.
The drivers are up-to-date. Video card is AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT.
I have previously completed the Early Access content with a previous patch, and this bug didn't happen.

Please, share any kind of help, suggestion or software I might use.

Thank you in advance for your kind attention and precious cooperation.

Try to validate your game files if you haven't.

The black screen is a random bug that also happens to me as well, but usually quitting and reloading fixes it and I carry on with my playthrough. It's not specific to a particular scene as it happens completely randomly when the game seems to be changing into a black fade screen transition.

Thank you.

I have tried quitting and reloading for over one hour, with no result.

The only thing that has worked, was reloading to a savefile where I had *just* entered the basement. Exchanged a few words with Ethel before she disappears, and then head straight for the door; whereas, in the savefile where the bug happens, I had interacted with all the cursed people surrounding it save for the blabbering elf in the corner (destroyed the mirror, removed the decapitated head, spoken with the blinded corpse, depetrified the dwarf).

Which means that ok, I have found a way to progress with the quest, however I don't think that the developers would consider a workaround a bugfix.

My questions, therefor, stands.

It's quite interesting that you have a save where it happens consistently. I would strongly suggest to officially submit a bug report with the save file to the team then, so they can investigate the cause of it.

You can do this by;

  • Clicking the HELP button during the game's launcher
  • Submitting an official bug report
  • Providing your save file

I would have done it myself, but I never managed to catch the bug consistently with a save, so this might be a rare opportunity to get this bug properly investigated and fixed.
