So I was checking out the map we got for Baldur's Gate 3 :
So far we only have a small part of this map, which represent act 1 minus the underdark. If my guess is correct we will travel the rest of the map in the later acts.
Now here is a map of Faerûn, with a red rectangle to represent the perimeter of the previous map :
I really like variety in landscapes, the swamp and the underdark are probably my favorite places in the game. I can't help to think this map is a bit underwhelming. Sure we get Baldur's Gate but it looks to me quite uniform for a fantasy map, there are a lot of common tropes I like that are missing. No snowy region, no desert, no island, no lake, no volcano, you get the idea. The world of Faerûn is huge and exhaustive and there is a lot of room for choosing interesting places there. I am by no mean a lore expert, so am I missing something there?
