I agree. Character interaction is what makes BG2 and Planescape: Torment the great games they are. They feature the good aspects of Japanese console RPGs - the story and characters - without the retarded gameplay. I think it's an utter waste, story-wise, to do what the Icewind Dale series (and most "old school" PC RPGs) did, and have a party of characters that is basically treated as a single entity, never talking to each other.
