Would be interesting to hear the official rationale behind Short Rest limitation.

At this point, even Larian should be aware that such a decision severely hamstrings certain classes, i.e. the ones whose resource is restored on both Short and Long rests. This primarily affects Warlock and, to a slightly lesser extent, Battle Master Fighter. If the company relies on its telemetry when making such decisions, then it's telling you the wrong story, because with the current level 4 cap the difference between Warlock and Wizard might be negligible, but on level 10 it will be... quite severe.

During the original Divinity: Original Sin crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, the very last stretch goal mentioned a day and night cycle, NPC schedules and weather systems. All of these could have impacted NPCs, monsters and magic. Do you still discuss the possibility of making a truly simulated game world at some point in the future?

Adam: I do in my own head constantly. I think it's a very different game. One of my favorite games of all time is Ultima Seven and it was the first game that I played that had proper NPC behaviors. You could wait for someone to go to the pub and then you could rob their shop. I love stuff like that, but a game that's built like that does very different things. We are very, very story focused as well and there's things that you lose. Also: multiplayer. We're a multiplayer game and day-night cycles in multiplayer becomes incredibly complicated. We're doing so many really complex things already that we know are going to be really good that, on top of that, it wouldn't fit this game.

I love simulated worlds and we have a lot of that stuff in there. We don't do the day-night cycle but we do the things where things in the world happen because you caused them to happen and they can happen off-screen. So, there are things happening off-screen. The world isn't just what you see on your screen. There are events that happen and things that will, because of the choices you've made, things will happen elsewhere. Those are real, those are systemic. Our systems are running in the background the whole time. There are incredibly deep systems. Some of them don't make sense for this game, but yeah, we think about it and we've talked about it.

Thanks for digging out that quote Max. What I don't really see in the response is a tangible bonafide reason why they can't implement a day/night cycle; it comes across as a politician's answer: "We don't do that but look at all these other things we do".

Also I'm afraid I can't really agree with that last paragraph, at least on my playthroughs the game world felt like static 'engagement' hubs where once an area was cleared, it was effectively dead to the game world.

My impression from the quote is that what Max thinks when he said "day&night" circle is different then what I have seen most players ask for. In most RPGs I can think of day&night cycle is mostly cosmetics - background NPCs sometime change, and occasionally se quest might happen only in day or night, but overall it's just colour filter and environment sound change. What max describes here is a more robust simulations it system, which makes sense considering that systemic interactivity is a bedrock of their design.

Yeah that's fair enough. Still, despite a somewhat raw implementation no doubt limited by the tech of the time, BG2 had a day/night cycle whereby, for example, shops were closed at night. In essence, I really don't see how they wouldn't do something similar in BG3. Failing that, even a cosmetic day/night cycle would be preferable to the notion of playing an entire campaign in midday sun, it's just so utterly laughable.

CRPGs are best when they create atmosphere, immersion, drawing you into the game world, you need a sense of the real/mundane/everyday to keep you grounded in a world full of magic and monsters. Small things like weather and the passing of the day are intrinsic to this and I just cannot fathom how they don't deem it important.

Different people find immersion in different things! For me cinematic dialogue is very important for creating immersion, and for you it is not important. For me day/night cycle and weather are not important but for you they are.

I can understand both sides. Personally, I find cinematic dialogues one-sidedly immersive. The animations like the encounter with the Owlbear are nice and the non-verbal narration is great, but cinematic dialogues are only really immersive in your own native language.

I'm also ambivalent about the weather. I like summer and sunshine can always stay that way. In the predecessors I almost always rested so that I play during the day. As a result, for years I even didn't notice that there was a Shadow Thief merchant in Waukeen's Promenade. xD

On the other hand, I find the 5e gimmick spells & cantrips such as Prestidigitation, Druidcraft and many more super exciting to test in interaction with weather effects and surfaces. Of course the size of the surfaces need to be reduced at least by 25%. Blood effects for surfaces I also find exaggerated.

Well why not toss my hat in the ring smile

1. Will the oath breaker be an option for Paladin? They’re already represented in act one.

2. Will a Warlock have the Patron option for The Undead? I mean Vlaakith is one of The Undead Patrons!
http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/warlock:undead

3. Will we be able to join the shadow Druids?
To keep it lore friendly. Find the evidence that they want to take over the grove. Have a dialogue option (Druids only) to keep silent and let them take over the grove. Never mention that they exist doing so exposes them and completely goes against their purpose, even if you agree with them. If you do the above, they will come to your camp one night and offer membership. To keep it lore friendly, if you decline they attack.

smile

I appreciate that but give me a rainswept wilderness to explore or a city slum at night over cinematic dialogue any day of the week. I'd be inclined to be more in favour of cinematic dialogues if they weren't so poorly directed and there were dialogue options on a par with BG2. I also don't think every single interaction warrants a cinematic dialogue, they seem to me to work best when they are saved for important parts in the story, freeing up resources that would be better spent elsewhere, otherwise the game just feels like an interactive movie rather playing a CRPG.

Question:
What happened with Gale bandages, or Shadowheart arm tatoo?

Should we expect another model updates, or are their artworks made different from their models for some reason?
And if so ... can you tell us the reason? O_o

I recently bought Baldur's Gate 3 in Early Access. I play on Mac (which I know is not ideal for gaming, I bought it before I got into gaming) and was super excited when I saw BG3 was playable on Mac. Anyway, I am slightly confused about Macs having a different release to PC. I have heard/seen mixed information about the release. I am aware the Mac release is unknown as of yet however, I have also seem some people stating online that if the game was purchased through steam, this won't matter as steam doesn't distinguish between Mac and PC. I doubt this is true and quite frankly the logic doesn't make much sense to me. However, I did want confirmation: if I own BG3 on Mac, there is no way for me to play it August 3rd? Even if I own it on steam and have GeForceNow?

Im not a techy guy, I dont think it matters If you have steam and GeForceNow, your Mac is the bottleneck so to speak. You will have to wait until that is announced, sorry mate.

On The off chance that Larian reads this, Any chance that you will re add PHB Racial ability bonuses as an option atleast? If not a statement/explanation for The change would be most appreciated.

Also any chance of adding Deity choice for Paladin? Same system/dialogue as Cleric would be fine. All you need add to please everyone is none as an option.

Im sure you will patch The game after release, any plans on dlc etc?

Is it possible to do both Underdark Arc and overland route in same playthrough? Or are they mutually exclusive?

Would be nice if after all the release and content is said and done for some devs to do a small AMA on the forum. Just a small thing.

Steam does distinguish between Mac and PC. They even have seperate system requirements. It just doesn't distinguish for purposes of your actual Steam License.

Sadly the Mac release date has not been announced. They said it will be announced at a later date. It is probably that they have been focusing exclusively on the PC release and have had to push back the Mac one to get that to happen.

I own both types of computers and have a license for each, but I would prefer to play on my iMac since it's awesome and it actually runs a bit better.

Goodmorning, can Larian Studios release a Physical Edition of ps5 BG3 for everyone instead of making it japan only?
