I predicted this is how BG3/Larian fans will hand-wave away the game's weaknesses, by simply saying those things "don't really matter."

No. They all do matter. Very much.

I'd lake to see a game that expands on it either way. In Solasta there are a few (outdoors) sections where you are encountering vampire-like creatures (defilers) and their crypts. During daytime, luring them out into the sun actually hurts them very much. Light and darkness plays a huge role in Solasta anyways.

Deepened some more, this is BG2's vampires in Athkatla (who only come out at night either ways) taken to the next level. Naturally, NPC daily schedules can also play a massively role on a role-playing level. Say you're this party tasked to infiltrate a castle. You may simply try to storm the front gates in case it's pimped with a few strong fighters. However, maybe your party is mostly Elven wizards ana a thief. Breaking into that castle at night may be tad easier in that case, as guard sight is more limited /it's easier to hide, the regular folk outside of guards may have gone to bed, etc.

D/N has always been an atmosphere boost in BG in general. I can live with that it won't be to the same degree in BG3. However, I am often puzzled how Larian, in particular Vincke, are outing themselves so much as fans of Ultima 7. Aside of their games being played from an isometric / top down perspective and everything being pick-upable, that rarely much shows. Ultima 7 was a fantasy realm world simulator, passing time included. Even in the realm of fantasy RPGs, it's a curious case. That's why it's still being remembered.

Maybe one day when he has the money to do his "dream RPG" -- which BG3 may be just a step towards to to realize it, popular license and all. laugh I'd certainly love to see all that extra budget for once go into world simulation and interactivty, rather than hours of movie-like dialogue animations and cutscenes -- that's what the big studios are all doing anyways to great commercial appeal (well, except for Bethesda.. so far), and oft on even higher budgets. wink
