Could someone know whos German well look at the article and tell us what it said? The english translation on the link image (automatic translation?) said: Swen Vincke told us in an interview that Minsc (and Boo) and Jaheira can be recruited as followers, but they can't be as Origin characters themselves like Elf Astarion can, for example. Chubbots tweet suggest that Minsc won't be an origin, but still will be the companion. However, camp followers tends to refer to non-playable camp members, like Helsin or Scratch, baby Owlbear or Volo. The french translation of the article is also : "can be recruited as companions but can't be played themselves as origin". This also suggest non-origin companions... but if you only take the word Begleiter it translate both to "companions" and "followers". Still waiting for a german speaking mate I guess... but I'm not sure we will have a clear answer. "Recruited as begleiter but not recruited as origin character" => I would not hope too much.

Wait what. A 260 euro collectors edition with...cloth map (nice!) , manga-like stickers... key chain... art book (nice!) , a big dice... fancy box...character sheets... and that center piece thing?
Wheres the Baldurs gate history lore stuff? A D&D monsters guide maybe with a WORLD guide? An amazing concept art poster? Beautifully cased music CDs including the previous BG games soundtracks? Monster figurines!!?? Some kind of iconic BG item or weapon!?!? Postcards of Minsc and Boo retelling their past adventures!!
What they offer is 90% under a dollar to make nor useful nor immersive junk!

It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

This is GREAT NEWS if Larian decided to walk back the whole "every companion will be an origin character" thing. That makes me way more confident that we will likely get a companion for every class and should open up way more variety.

Witcher 3 wild hunt had this amazing HUGE figurine statue. A pendant item, a HUGE art book, the full CD collection, Witcher Universe Compendium!.....
Looking what a Studio offers for their game in the collectors edition...tells A LOT about the game and the studio at the given time.
Larian does not seem to be interested in anything LORE wise for D&D and Baldur's gate. I mean, thats the message I get from that collectors edition.
Freakin manga sitckers...give me a break. Who thought of that Collectors edition? The Instagram/Twitter team?

You may not like it but it is still a statue. BG3 artbook is 30 pages less than the artbook of The Witcher 3. The pendant is also totally useless and who the hell still have a CD player in his computer / car / home in 2022 ? My biggest problem with BG3's collector is the lack of physical box / steelbox of the game. And let's be honnest I really don't find the stickers appealing too. But in the end it is not better nor worse than what I have bought/seen these last years.

Not impressed honestly.
This looks straight out of 2009. Nah, there's something missing for 2009ish. The bloods, the guts, the boobies. And the randomly licensed Marilyn Manson track. All to get you pumped, even if you didn't give a damn about party-based, tactical combat RPGS, including BG, before. 2009 was the new shit!  That was then-Bioware's attempt to address one of the big criticisms about their otherwise stellar games of the time: they were just too simplistic in their narratives and action (no moral grey areas, cartoonish violence, fun but not particularly deep NPCs and characters). Didn't mean their games weren't some of the best I've ever played...they certainly were. They could have just been that much better. DAO I feel over-corrected a bit, but it was still fantastic and was the last (along with ME2) great game they released. Everything since DAO/ME2 was a sharp decline....resulting in the Bioware of today being a bad joke. As trailers go...this one for BG3 sucked. In any case, BG3, thus far, has not impressed (or even excited) me. I'll still pick it up and play it through to completion and decide then if I'll continue to support Larian's future efforts with it (if there are to be any).

August, huh? That means we're definitely getting another patch at some point next year.
My only takeaway from this is that Larian better be hoping that they're confident in that August release window. Delay it too far and it'll get eaten alive by FFXVI's PC launch, which is most likely targeting December/January window. Isn't FF7 Remake Part 2 supposed to come out holiday 2023? Seems like it would be a lot to release two AAA Final Fantasy games right next to one another like that.

Oh man, if that means that only origin companions are locked after the first Act, but we can get non-origin companions after, that'll be wonderful! Just ignore the origin companions and hook up with the good companions and not have to gimp my party.

That means Halsin might be a nonorigin companion, too!!!!!🐻🐻🐻 Honestly, if Jaheira is a companion then it would be highly unlikely - two druid elves companions just seems like way too much overlap. Like what are your expectations? The trailer didnt reveal much, that I didn't know or expect already, nor did it suggest that Larian addresses any of my issues with the title. However, if there are indeed recruitable companions who aren't carrying double duty as origins, then it's a positive thing in my mind.
