My only takeaway from this is that Larian better be hoping that they're confident in that August release window. Delay it too far and it'll get eaten alive by FFXVI's PC launch, which is most likely targeting December/January window.

Yes, they will need to do Patch 10 with Monk in MAR/APR 2023. And this allows them another press cycle of hype to prepare for launch, though I assume they will some some pre-launch promotion as well.

I think with the release date being in the next ~8 months and Patch 9 coming, I no longer believe Level 5 will be added to EA. I'm okay with that.

i doubt a patch released that far to the release date would allow them to integrate feedback from it into the game. in which case, what would be the point?

Why?

1) more followers are allways better
2) Jaheira was allready semi-confrimmed trough some interview (mentioned abowe)
3) They know well enough that Halsin is strongly requested
4) Druids are probably most versatile class in the game, so there is nothing stoping you making each completely different
5) 3 Druids party can be OP as fuck laugh

Also there are some arguments about replayability, and people who allready mentioned around here that they play with "single life" > companion died in combat ... too bad, lets pick another one.

Im sory, but i wouldnt say that Jaheira excludes Halsin in any way ... if something suggest we wont be able to invite Bear Daddy in our party, its his level ... our whole party is equal in XP ... but that can easily be changed.

Game of the year. I don't care. Well done Larian! You delivered.

D&D game confirms it has D&D staple races in it. Hyperbole much?

I'm cautiously optimistic for the presence of non-origin companions. Hopefully this will mean "companions without tadpoles" rather than "companions that have tadpoles, but just don't start on the MF ship." If so, it would make sense that the more egotistic/abrasive/evil characters are origin characters, as that gives them a reason to work with Tav & each other. Whereas the Good characters will want to help regardless of their personal plight.

Yeah I agree, especially Jaheira is Warrior/Druid, she has always been a very useful, versatile, solid character to have in any team. The main reason I was avoiding her was because of her agressive bossy attitude and roleplay with Khalid.
But I presume that now she is wiser and smarter and Khalid is long far gone, so she might come back really great!

As I expected the trailer didn't tell me anything useful or meaningful. It's a movie trailer, which makes sense as BG3 is more a movie than a video game. Just lots of pointless cinematic fluff.

If Jaheira is going to be a party companion, then she will be the first, and thus far only companion choice I would truly like having in my party. And it speaks volumes that Larian has to go dredge up old companion characters from the first game made 22 years ago to come up with memorable and enjoyable companion characters. Even in BG3, the credit for Jaheira (and Minsc) go to Bioware and not to Larian.

They've pretty much indicated they're done making major changes to the game. The patch would be another PR boon for Larian and an opportunity to continue momentum for the release.

That's all these PFHs are or else they could have released multiple classes at a time instead of trickling them out.

Yes because they could have easily not done it and they look great.

I think you're being a bit harsh on the trailer. For starters, it's still about 10 months away. It also explained the basic story-face the cult of the absolute and deal with the tadpole in our brain. For anyone not in early access, that's I think the first solid reveal of those aspects of the story. It did show some bits of gameplay as well. Its not for us in early access, it's for people who either weren't aware of the game or were aware but not following it/not in EA.They've also got a major, mechanics-focused event coming next week. That'll go for an hour or more. This trailer is about building hype for sure, but what more did you expect from it? If there weren't a panel from hell on the way, I'd be more critical too.

Could be payoff
for the owlbear cub arc. Maybe a happy cub lets the druid study it enough to take its form.
Or maybe just high level (circle of the moon?) stuff.

To address some of the visual complaints about the game:

1. I think the game looks great in the isometric view.
2. I think the updated cut scenes, for the most part, have looked pretty good.

The promotional material stuff where we are zoomed in doesn't look that great, but how often are we actually going to have that view in the actual game?

Baldur's Gate 3 is the best isometric/old school CRPG I have ever seen and it isn't really close. Do I wish it looked like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 or God of War (2018/Ragnarok)? Heck yeah - that would be awesome if Larian can get to that level. But I have never seen a game like BG3 that has managed to get to that level yet.

Any loremasters recognize the tenticle in the trailer?

Whatever it is, it seems to be underneath Moonrise Towers and demolishes it from within. Perhaps a Nautiloid?

I still have this image from an old datamine months ago. If we can get an owlbear wildshape, I now truly believe this will also happen even though Swen said it won't...

I think you are right about that. Something like https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Slarkrethel would be too far-fetched. Although it would be exciting to meet another unknown power, besides the already known ones. It would at least be a raison d'être for spells like Water Breathing.

Fair enough, and that's why I said I wasn't expecting anything meaningful from the trailer and I got exactly what I was expecting, which is nothing. But the difference between us, it would seem, is that you are expecting a lot of positive things from the panel next week where as I not expecting anything meaningful from that panel either that would make me change my mind about how poor this game is relative to what it should be.

It boggles the mind that for some people Larian showing a half-orc or a kobold in their cinematic trailer is HYPE. Clearly Larian game fans measure Larian games with expectations far lower than what they would demand from other games.

Except for that BG3 isn't old school in any way, shape or form. BG3 is an appearances-focused AAA game, and that is the proper yardstick by which it ought to be measured and compared with other games.
