I don't know about that. Surely armor would be mentained and cleaned. This looks more like a rusty bucket that could be a nice starting point with low stats, but not a fully funcional armor. And sure, the idea of picking up "legendary" items from a cave is riddiculous but that's where the magical element comes from, no?
That is where durability comes in with a smith that can fix and reforge stuff for you but ok different topic i guess.
With thinking like that we are where we are. Where most of the stuff is made from the same looking shiny polished steel. Gith armor looks to me like it was made today in chine as replica.
