Things to note:
I killed Gale and every other follower that is not with me currently.
I haven't interacted with anything of Gale's but I did loot him.
I was doing the trick where you pickpocket and you teleport to your camp to blow off heat from you.

Edit - I killed Gale before having him be a follower. He was killed RIGHT where you first meet him. He was not a member of my party and had no affiliation with me. Pretty crazy magic if he can kill anyone that kills him.

Basically there is no way for me to continue with this save. It won't let me teleport out to avoid having to sleep, and when I return to the main world, it claims I have been defeated but clearly I'm not.

Im affraid this isnt bug ...
If you take Gale with you, he eventualy tells you that if something happens to him (meaning he die) and he stays that way, aproximately after 3 days his "magical orb" he carry, will erupt and most likely kill everything in quite serious radius.

And that is exactly what happened here.

It's poorly conveyed (hopefully, because this is EA), but this is the intended result for killing Gale because of his current condition.

I would still say this is a bug. I killed Gale and left him right where you first meet him. I did NOT have him join my party. I had no interaction with him other than clicking the "attack" dialogue option when I was forced to talk with him.
Immediately it had him give me the speech about how to resurrect him and acted like we were in a party. However, this is not the case.

I never had him join my party. He wasn't bound to me in any way.

I think it's intended that way. Gale doesn't lose his condition just because he's not part of your team.

Killing him makes it impossible for him to contain his condition.

He does warn you about it (to an extend if I remember correctly).

You could just not have him in your party without killing him.

I'm fine with it, personally. It's one of those "Actions have consequences" that you can avoid by not accepting him in your party (but let him live).

"Actions have consequences" makes sense if you were bound to him in any way. Unfortunately just killing him doesn't mean that he should be able to wipe out an entire team in 3 days.

Currently doing an evil team playthrough with an oath breaker and it's more or less kill on sight, especially if it's a wanderer with no one around and we know that we can take them.
This is going against how we are trying to play and makes 0 sense given the fact that we aren't bound to him in any sense. He would be no different to us than any other npc we would encounter.

And if this magic that he has is so powerful that it could just kill anyone in 3 days, why aren't any of the enemies using it?

The fact that it acts like you're in his party when you kill him is a bug.

Just because you don't like a feature, doesn't mean it's a bug. GMs tend to find way to prevent full-on murderhobo players.

That's one of them.

It doesn't matter that he is in your party or not. That just makes him an Npc instead of a companion. Npcs can have an effect on the game too.

It's not his magic, again, it a condition that he has.
It's unique to him. The game could convey that in a better manner but that just how it is.
Gale does give your some warning and what happens after he dies is fairly explicit and part of the story.

Edit : it's not a bug, but feel free to make a suggestion if you want : https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=87&page=1

I can understand both your points of view, but lean more towards Crimion.

For example, in BG 2, if you attack Aran Linvail, an assassin appears and kills you immediately, simply because Aran is a necessary NPC for the story. On the other hand, you could solve it the way they did with other NPCs, which is that they teleport away as soon as they are attacked.

In the specific case of Gale, I would prefer that, unless he is part of the party. Then you still have the opportunity to meet him later when you find out more about him.

After all, it is rumored that some of the companions, probably pretty much the ones who are not actively in your party, will die at the end of Act 1 anyway, which means that we will be confronted with the problem of Gale as a living bomb again.... So there should be a solution to his so-called "uniqueness".

Thats quite some interpretation ...

I for one would simply say that his spell was "preprogramed" to simply apel to listener self preservation.

Yes i understand that your Evil, murdering oathbreaker thinked "why should i bother with this shit" and moved on ... but that was (as it shows up) pretty unwise decision.

Is that so?
Lets imagine he have a TIMED bomb planted in himself ... big, strong, scarry, magical bomb ... wich it basicaly is ... ok?

Now, you killed him, okey?
But did nothing about the bomb, bcs you didnt even know about its existence, nor about its principle.

Then his Minor Image warned you that something reeeeeeeeealy bad is going to happen, unless he is ressurected ...
But since you felt no desire to help him, you ignored this warning.

Got it?
Great.

Now tell me please ... why exactly do you expect that bomb to stop ticking? O_o
Bcs thats not how timed bombs usualy work. laugh

3 reasons actualy:

1) It dont kill "anyone" it kills "everyone" ... including the wielder, including the person who would want to use it as a weapon (most likely) ... wich is hardly worth it.
But i can imagine special division of Tactical Nuclear Gale in some funny hollyday special comics. laugh

2) They dont have any ... this "orb" (as Gale calls it), is in fact part of original soul of Godess of Magic herself ... its not something you would simply buy in nearby shop. laugh

3) Its quite possible that nobody except Gale knows about this thing.

That ... or this alone prooves that this rumor is nothing but that, just a rumor. wink

It would've been better if there was a cut scene of the epic explosion where a huge wave of destruction sweeps over the river flattening everything.

Maybe have a brief cutscene beforehand of Gale's hologram still imploring.

Very good idea. Some kind of a warning vision (from Mystra).

We definitely need a gigantic explosion for this one! All we get is snapshot of Gale in his underwear and a game over screen. Serial killer runs will need to refrain from killing Gale.

I realize that this is a necro old post... but it is totally a bug... the not having everone die thing, not so much. I 100% agree actions have consequences. None of those other things that the customer complained about are bugs because they are still in proximity of the bomb plan and simple. But the fact that the dialogue does not change, and Gale thinks you are in his party. That is immersion breaking. I would not go as far as to say it is completely game breaking. But the dialogue should change accordingly. The fact that it does not is definitely a bug. Now if the gamer also makes it all the way to the underdark before the 3 day mark, and it still killed their entire party. Then, the argument of not being tied to Gale in any way holds at that point.

If they die in the underdark some distance away this would also be a bug. But on the map after escaping the nautiloid, if everyone wipes. The dieing part is not a bug... but the dialogue part is for sure.
