I'm not sure if Barcus would make a particularly good companion. He doesn't have an obvious class, for one thing. I presume you didnt seen him invent that explosive arrow for you? That dude is clearly Artificer. I know it only switch single problem for another, but the class is certainly there! Alfira... ...also doesn't seem like someone who's got the chops to be an actual adventurer. Thats the beauty isnt it? I mean, IF (and that alone is huge if) i would bring Alfira with me, i wouldnt want her to become fulltime adventurer, it would ruin her character ... On the contrary ... she have perfect prequisitions to be that "bad time bad place" kind of follower ... someone who will keep complaining about dirty caverns, bloodthirsty monsters, keep inplying that you should try peacefull solutions ... that kind of stuff. We allready have enough "lets kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil" followers, dont be shy to try something different Larian!
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!

He can make an explosive arrow for us? No, I've never seen that. Does that happen after the big Nere fight? I've only reached it once and gave up on it. I'll probably try it again once I hit level 5.
And I agree with you about wanting a companion who's not so down for adventuring, I guess I like Alfira enough to want her not to go through the bad time that adventuring would be for her.

Yup ... It happens if you save him from Grymforge, and AFTER that you rescue Halsin.

Wait, we rescue Halsin again, really? I did not see that coming.

No, not again. You can do things in whatever order you want ... And if you want to see this scene, you have to have Barcus Wroot in your camp during Tiefling celebration ... meaning you need to save him first (from Nere) before you invite Tieflings ... It just felt more natural to save Halsin "after" than let them wait for you this whole time ... quite honestly i dont even know if they will wait for you, or invite themselves with your first Long Rest. O_o

I'm pretty sick of this "amazing from level 1" nonsense and low level parties clubbing Adamantine Golems to death. I want my low level party to feel like a low level party. ^This. Soooooo this.

You make some really good points. Considering this, maybe Halsin should be left out of becoming a companion (of course Jaheira and Minsc are already confirmed). I disagree with this!!!

Could you elaborate futher on what aspect your party dont feel like a low level? O_o Or on what aspect you feel like your party is "amazing from level 1"?

I might be weird, and pretty sure this isn't happening (as it might cause trouble in later areas), but I want Sazza. After you free her Wyll complains and you can make a comment about everyone getting a second chance. I would love to see your character be able to try and actually reform her or encourage her current behavior towards your enemies.

I was so sad when after the Minthara interaction, I never saw her again. She could be a ranger - while Minsc will probably be too, I imagine the two of them being mutually exclusive.

A ranger would work though I think she would also fit as a barbarian.

I could see Alfira joining up with us, but I think it shouldn't be until act 2. I like her in act one being just this person who's in mourning and trying to rekindle her passion for music again. But she also doesn't seem like someone who's got the chops to be an actual adventurer. I like her a lot and would romance her in a shot if the opportunity presented itself, but I think there's a lot of value in having just civillian characters who are weaker than us. It helps to actually mark the difference between a regular person and a level one adventurer. Her naive attitude, for a change, in a refreshing way, to deal with the circumstances of her current situation (escape from her homeland Elturel, loss of her mentor and lover? Lihala, xenophobia, coping in a new environment, etc.) while making further discoveries predestine her IMO to become an excellent explorer and historian. TBH I wish Larian had replaced Volo with Alfira! BTW, she doesn't have to be a playable Companion to date her. In DAI, for example, you could also date NPCs like Josephine.

Harding also did the same thing. Personally I wouldn't mind a few more camp followers. Ideally a camp merchant or just generally a non-combat adventurer who does camp logistics.
