At present you can only cast on allies. This probably sounds like a weird idea, but could potentially be very interesting. For example by casting PfGaE on the masked minions in the hags den would ideally break the masks control long enough to talk with or have them remove their masks. This could be a similar interaction to other hostile characters held under bewitchment/enchantment. Remove curse could potentially also fill this role depending on the status ailment.

I wanted to try this in the fight with Auntie Ethel.
My bard tried her best not to harm innocents, so I was quite disappointed that this obvious solution was not available.
I must admit that this fight was quite frustrating, not only because it is very challenging, but first and foremost from a role playing perspective.

The spell is supposed to only target a "willing creature", which I guess, Larian decided to consider them not to be willing creatures?

But I do understand this sentiment, a lot. I also wanted to try that but couldn't 😭

Does Calm Emotions works? I don't remember from my own playthrough 😅. I feel like this one should for sure.

Not all a weird idea, it's been part of the game since 1E.

The 3rd level Circle of protection from evil basically emulates the scene in Dracula where Van Helsing draws the circle and the the others huddle within, while Dracula's brides hiss and snarl impotently at them through the night.

Prot. from evil was a charm and possession suppressor.

[Edit] Nope, just checked. Can't do this with it in 5E. Got to use Greater restoration (5th level spell available at 9th level).

Not sure about calm emotions. I only attempted to use PfGaE and was unable. Most likely calm emotions might stop them from fighting, but it wouldn't break the mask curse or make it so you can interact with them. Something else to try I guess.

Good idea. We should be able to by Greater Restoration scrolls at vendors. In BG 2 it was always possible to buy these scrolls and even Stone to Flesh scrolls at cleric vendors. But I see no reason why druid vendors should not sell them too.

You are absolutely right, as long as they are enchanted, they would not be willing frown

I'm actually kinda disappointed in the Baldur's gate 3 version of PfGaE. In Icewind dale (which I am most familiar with) it's one of the best defensives moves in the game because of that charm protection. Also being unable to be targeted by enemy summons. Seems like in 3 beyond the story specific uses to unlock that underdark door there are way better defensive spells.

Just as Owlbear is not a Beast ...
And we can talk to it ... aswell as (based on Game Awards teaser) transform to it ...

I would dare to say that if there is something that dont bother Larian much is rule restrictions. wink
