I have done extensive, rigorous research on which non-PHB subclasses are D&D players' favorites, and compiled them into a list. This is just one subclass per class, so I'm sorry if your favorite isn't here. I'm just curious what subclasses of the ones listed are ones you'd like to see in BG3.

Feel free to comment what subclass you'd like to see if your favorite isn't in the poll.

Non-PHB subclasses you'd like to see
multiple choice, up to 3 choices

None of them 😅

Subclasses that have my interest :

Divine Soul (Sorcerer)
The Archfey (Warlock)
Bladesinging (Wizard)
Arcane Archer (Fighter)
Fey Wanderer (Ranger)

too name a few 🙂

I would have said Oath of Redemption, but I'm not a fan of how paladins are implemented in BG3 (to each their own), so...I don't care as much in this context.

Edit : I voted for Shadow magic sorcerer, to see the result but also, it's not too far down my list.

In terms of subclasses not on this list, I would want spore druids (for my evil necromancy zombie apocalypse run, together with the death cleric, oathbreaker and necromancer) and the zealot barbarian.

I was surprised you have the totem warrior on your list.
I am pretty sure the wildheart is supposed to be the larian version of that subclass.

For sorcerers, I want clockwork magic sorcs, but the tasha subclasses are just too strong, especially the sorcerer and cleric ones. They have very cool theming though...

Gloom Stalker and Hexblade from the ones you listed.

Path of the Totem Warrior is already in the game, under the name of Wildheart. There are a few differences, usually in the way of making Wildheart a bit stronger, so no complaints from me on that.

Other than that, I'd like to see Monster Slayer Ranger. Usually considered one of the worse Rangers, I would love to actually try it sometime, but don't have many chances in my private group as the #ForeverDM

I'd be interested in what research you did compiling these. This looks like a collection of the most controversial sub-classes in the game, lol. I don't mean this to sound confrontational, mind you. However, I've heard more complaints about the majority of these sub-classes than anything else in the game.

The Gloomstalker is fine of course, and I'm not familiar with the Way of Mercy Monk though.

Well **** me, you're right. It's PHB too. My bad.

I think they're controversial because they're among the best subclasses in the game, lol.

I'm currently DMing a game and one of the players has an Echo Knight. It's annoying to work around.

From the list Hexblade of course.
And I would like to see Clockwork Magic sorcerer, and Archfey warlock.

I am surprised that the Artificier is missing. But ok I am just repeatin my list:

1. Grenadier (or the "Destruction" specialist from Definitive Alchemist)
2. Throwns Weapons Master (5e SRD)
3. Storm Sorcerer
4. Bloodhunter - Profane Soul (I really want to multiclass this one with the Gloomstalker to make a devious and jaded Bounty Hunter!)
5. Arcane Archer
6. Raven Knight

So for now I am voting for Hexblade, Gloomstalker and Echo Knight...

You can really break this down into three criteria: "what do I like to play", "what is a good fit for the narrative" and "what suits Larian's style".

I was thinking about the third one yesterday, as a potential replacement for the Champion fighter, which I don't think anyone is overly attached too. I came up with Arcane Archer and Purple Dragon Knight (Banneret). Both of these could benefit from some buffing, but I think that would be to Larian's advantage, since there are few complaints when they change things for the better.

As for the first, I've had fun playing a Battle Smith Artificer, and I've contemplated playing a Circle of Stars druid. Although I don't think that is a good fit for the second criterion.

On Hexblade: Wyll's ability score distribution doesn't fit the character, unless they either make him a hexblade or fold Hex Warrior into Pact of the Blade. In which case hexblade becomes redundant.

Non-PHB subclasses are in the realm of possibility since we already got one (oathbreaker), but I think non-PHB classes might be too much to hope for. Especially not ones that are kind of specific to a non-Faerun setting.

I just wish for the Aberrant Mind Sorcerer. It does, in fact, suit the narrative very well laugh

A bit off-topic, but I thought about a situation that I would find amusing with a Shadow magic sorcerer Tav.

One of their potential quirks is that they "have trouble remembering that living creatures and corpses should be treated differently."

So, after Tav uses the wand on Mayrina's husband and bringing him back as a corpse, I'm imagining this exchange :
- Tav "Oh, yay! That's great, I'm so happy for you 🥰🥹"
- Mayrina : "What? Who is this? That's not my husband 😢😭?".
- Tav : "I dont understand. Who is that person coming out of your husband's casket then 🤔?"

Shadow magic sorcerer sounds really cool and I want them in now. Also, there's a lot of cool reactivity potential when it comes to the shadow curse.

"What do you mean 'we can't go through the shadow curse' 😶?"
or "I'm not sure why you are so afraid of this curse, but sure, underdark it is 🙂"
or "Ugh, fine 😒, the underdark it is...*mumbles* weaklings."

Haha. Agree, the more I think of it, the more I like the potential of having it added (that is only if they can deliver on the RP-side with dialogue-option :p).

Some of the potential quiks are fun to read as well :
"Your heart beats once per minute. This event sometimes surprises you." or "You blinked. Once. Last week."

I have a friend who runs Soulknife Rogue. It looks fun and devastatingly effective from the three years that I've been playing with him in our current tabletop campaign. It sounds like it would fit extremely well with the overall vibe of BG3 too.

I want to echo these choices, and add Celestial Warlock. Like with Divine Soul, it's pretty awesome to feel like a magical multitool. I like throwing out some reliable DPS, but I also enjoy healing. "Offer one hand, arm the other" is my personal motto.

In the end, Celestial Warlock is my #1 most desired subclass hands down, but I do very much like Archfey as well, and played one for years. Fiend, Hexblade, and GOO just all seem like such bad bargains--making a pact with a celestial or fey makes so much more sense to me. It would also give the PC something to talk about if Wyll is also in the party. Who you would make a deal with says a lot about a person already.

A psionic rogue sounds awesome as well; would love to see Soulknife.
